October 18th, 2013 Planting #286

On March 25, 2012 a horrible tragedy occurred on the streets of Upcountry Maui. There was a horrible car accident that killed 5 young adults.

A few days ago I was grabbing a few slices of pizza at the Kula Marketplace. I was talking with someone about my everyday tree planting addiction. Our conversation was overheard by the mother of the late Steven Robert Shaw. She asked me to plant a tree at the location where son was killed.

I never met any of the people who died in this spot, however my heart was overwhelmed with sadness knowing that their lives were cut short and they’ve left behind many people who will always miss them. The only person who survived the crash was the driver who now possibly faces a long time in prison.
